As I mentioned before, when it rains, it pours. I have been with the company for almost 8 years. I’ve mainly worked in the field in operations, but I did spend 2 years at our corporate office. Anyway, I was told by my bosses that we are currently overstaffed at my current office but that I can move into the same position at a different location. That sounded good, at first, but I know that this is just the beginning of the end. Banishing me to Siberia doesn’t really do anything about the overstaffing, especially when you offer someone else in my office more hours because I’m leaving. The new commute will entail a bus to a train, switch trains, then another bus and walking for 10-15 minutes. I need exercise, but not like that. Commutes should be uncomplicated, not printed directions worthy.
Then on the train today, I saw a guy I used to work with at the corporate office who might have a job for me. I’ll spiff up my resume and shoot it off to him on Monday night. This position would be way closer to home and only one train ride away.
I hope that I can move on from my current position. Since I am having no luck in my field (public administration/urban planning), I need to keep doing whatever I can do to make more money and build a more stable future for myself. I can’t count on getting married for financial stability like women of the past - I’ve got to do this all on my own.
